Moonstar Jiyugaoka Maple Street

The store of MoonStar, a shoe manufacturer based in Kurume, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary. This is the second store in Jiyugaoka, following the one opened in 2022, and the two stores within walking distance were planned to be combined into one store.

The store will not only sell shoes, but will also frequently hold shoe-making related workshops and exhibitions of paintings and photographs, etc. As with the previous store, the flexible floor plan will be used to create a calm store that takes advantage of its deep floor plan.

The new store also utilizes MoonStar’s craftsmanship in the joint production of fixtures. As in the previous store, rubber skirting boards were used for the fixtures and lighting. The surface of the checkout counter is made of shoe canvas lined with shoe insoles and secured with shoelaces, and the curtain installed at the boundary with the backyard is made of canvas with rubber glued to the foot of the canvas.
Benches and plantings that can be used from the outside and inside are installed to present a continuous landscape with the town of Yugaoka.

As a store for Moonstar, which aims to be a “community brand that lives amidst the connections among people, region, and culture,” the construction and store space were presented as the groundwork for an exchange of people, skills, and wisdom through shoes.
