Residence in the back

This is a renovation of a house located at the back of the house, past the shopping street and further down an unpaved alley.

Making full use of the existing site and wooden frame, we modified the house to improve sunlight and ventilation, reinforced the structure and insulation, replaced the facilities, and prepared the house as a receptacle for various events related to daily life.

Living in a town is the sum total of various activities such as working, playing, housework, taking care of things, gardening, inviting people, etc., beyond the minimum activities of sleeping, waking up, and eating, and the house should be designed to realize these various activities.

In order to keep up with the ever-changing forms of family and living, the first floor consists of a brightly lit outside room with a tent roof, a hall, a water area, and a work space with circulation, while the second floor consists of a large hall and an alcove that serves as a small place of residence, like a number of pockets. The materials, details, and furnishings are designed to be easily modified as the residents live in the house, providing a base from which they can make improvements to their living space with their own hands.
