A high table crafted from wood sourced in Minamiashigara City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

True to its name “chubby furniture,” it uses 40mm thick cedar planks, making it a high table suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

By using the same material dimensions for everything from the tabletop to the legs and connecting pieces, the design facilitates easy stock control of materials in Minamiashigara, a small-scale forestry area. Furthermore, by keeping the details simple enough for carpenters to construct, the product plan aims to utilize both the local materials and the technical skills and expertise of the region.

Leveraging the material’s thickness and rounding the edges visually expresses the soft charm of cedar. The distinctive tabletop shape, resembling a small protruding mountain, allows for various uses depending on the user, what is placed on it, and even combinations of tables.

By comprehensively considering materials, details, and design from the outset, we aim to update the image of cedar and create product designs that support the sustainable forestry of this region.
