Apartment floor plans are a real problem. For example, even if you have 100m2, if you have two children in a two-bedroom apartment, you will not be able to fit them in no matter how hard you try. Even if you try to change the floor plan, you are still bound by the existence of one window per room that matches the original floor plan.

In this residence, the floor plan was opened up from the windows, and the windows were shared by everyone.

A veranda-like space, the “en-no-ma,” was placed on the exterior wall side, and a corridor running through the kitchen, bathroom, washbasin, closet, and other utility spaces was placed on the windowless side of the boundary wall.

While making these major changes to the plan, the original ceiling was left in place. The uneven ceilings, which were dependent on the floor plan, suddenly collide with the new walls and furniture and become mysterious openings. These openings connect each private room to the air-conditioned perimeter perimeter zone.

The three private rooms and the living room have access to both the edge and the corridor, and the edge can be used as an extension space for each private room.

Even in a residence, it is good to have a place for various moods, not just a living room. A bench by the window, a space to concentrate, the darkness of an alcove, a spacious living room where everyone gathers, an entrance where you can talk with guests for a moment. The house is a series of such places, starting from the edge of the house.
